A European GaN transistor supply chain
Strategic innovation for a competitive space sector
At SAGaN we are creating a self-sufficient supply chain of 650V gallium nitride (GaN) transistors. Unlike conventional, silicon-based transistors, these power switches are lightweight, more efficient, and resistant to the extreme conditions of space, especially radiation. Europe has a strategic need to develop its own GaN transistors to gain competitiveness in the space industry, and thus develop modern, lighter satellites and probes.

From initial design to validated prototypes
We carry out every step of the process
To create GaN transistors for space, several steps are involved with no room for error. Some of these steps are commonly outsourced due to the high level of specialisation required to carry them out. At our consortium, however, we have the rare and necessary expertise to carry out all operations.

Collaboration by industry leaders
Our four companies join their complementary strengths
The ambitious SAGaN goals are possible thanks to the cumulated expertise of our members in all the involved technologies. The consortium is composed of a company devoted to space level GaN transistors and integrated circuit design (Semi Zabala), a research foundry (Imec), a company that processes wafers to the standards required by the technology (Disco Hi-Tec) and a satellite equipment manufacturer with component packaging capabilities (Sener).
